About us
Ativismo ABC

Ativismo ABC is an anarchist collective formed at the beginning of 2002 during the anti-globalization manifestations that were going on in São Paulo and in many other places around the world. Due to the weakening of the manifestations and protests, the collective began to follow its own dynamic of political and organizational development through the opening of its own space (Casa da Lagartixa Preta “Malagueña Salerosa”) in March 2004. The collective chose to follow a perspective in which the space wouldn’t be exclusively to centralize libertarian activities, but also a place to put the political perspective in practice and expand them throughout the neighborhood and other places. The collective went and has constantly gone through changes due to the increasing amount of practices that have been developed in Casa da Lagartixa Preta and in Casa Branca neighborhood (Santo André – SP).
As a result of the great amount of experience, the collective currently seeks to be a reference of possibilities, which can be called as “marketing through actions”, by trying to put those ideas and principles in practice in its daily life and in the relationship with other movements and collectives.
An autonomous life before the market and the State depends on the strengthening and enrichment of the social relationships around us, that’s why the collective seeks ways of creating parallel structures which allow it to weaken the bonds of individual and collective dependence on the institutions. Because of that, knowledge related to eating habits, habitation and health has got some political importance in this collective. Soon, agroecology, construction, traditional knowledge, fitotherapy and others got to be part of the practice and knowledge of the collective.
The collective strongly believes in the power of transformation that comes from the exchange of experiences among other collectives, spaces and social movements. Due to the collective’s experience in the anarchist movement it is a solid one that supports other groups in our region, in Brazil and throughout the world. Along with those groups, it has been building up an autonomous and independent network of practice, knowledge and experience exchange, which seeks to weaken the State and the capital, and strengthen the autonomy as collectives and individuals.
